Background
Bonnier Publications A/S is a company with many international connections and it important for them that employees at all levels can communicate accurately and professionally in English. Therefore, BLS is contacted on a regular basis for one-to-one English courses with individuals based precisely on his or her specific requirements. In particular, one of the senior Directors chooses to have regular 20-lesson courses spread over 10 weeks at quieter times of the year, but also engages us at other times for preparation in advance of specific meetings or presentations in English.
Objectives
The key requirement of a specific intensive course was to prepare the participant for a presentation he was due to give in English to a large, international audience of fellow magazine publishers.
Approach
The course consisted of 8 lessons divided between two meetings. The presentation slides were forwarded to the instructor in advance, who noted and corrected any incorrect or poor English usage. This was then discussed and corrected at the first meeting. In addition, the participant gave the presentation to the instructor who made written notes regarding errors as well as suggested improvements. These notes were then discussed. At a follow-up session the participant was able to run through the revised presentation several times, improving his English substantially with each practice. In addition, the instructor asked a wide variety of follow-up questions.
Results
The participant was able to confidently deliver an accurate, professional and engaging presentation and respond well to the audience’s questions. He received extremely positive feedback.
