When language means business

Arabic

Sabah al-khayr! Keyfa haluka? Good morning! How are you?

Only a few words, but they can have a huge impact.  They can be the first step towards a good, constructive dialogue in the Arab-speaking world - as a business partner, colleague or neighbour.

BLS offers tailor-made courses in Standard Arabic, which is the common language for Arabs, and which is most commonly used for written communication.  This usage has been carried over to electronic media, where standard Arabic is more and more often used as a spoken language - on the radio, TV and in religion.

The written language is also referred to al-fusha, which means harmonious and correct Arabic.  An Arabic course will typically include basic grammatical principles - classifications based on case and gender - and formulation of sentences.  From the very first lesson you will practice writing the Arabic alphabet and begin to develop confidence in its rules regarding the placing, relationships between and pronunciation of letters.

And the effort will pay off!  Around 180 million people communicate in Standard Arabic on a daily basis.  In other words, the language can provide a way in to a large civilisation, rich in traditions and with many development opportunities - for businesses, interest groups and cultural organisations.

"The teacher had amazing patience for my bad Danish. In the end I felt like I could actually pronounce words fairly correctly and I understand my colleagues much better now. Very satisfied."
