Danish for Nursing and Care Workers
The course is primarily aimed at non-native Danish speakers working within the health care sector who need to acquire a better and more sophisticated level of Danish, including an increased confidence in using relevant technical and professional terminology. The course consists of four key areas which usually cause difficulties: pronunciation, vocabulary, written Danish and forms of address.
Problems with pronunciation can lead to misunderstandings, not only among colleagues, but also with patients and the public. They can cause unnecessary barriers to good and productive relationships and can therefore affect the well-being of the staff and the public. This course focuses on the individual participant’s current pronunciation issues, meaning that everyone can very quickly notice a marked improvement.
Correct and precise vocabulary is of utmost importance in order for health workers to function professionally and without misunderstanding. We will focus on ensuring that the participants are thoroughly versed in the relevant terminology and common language usage within the profession – in spoken and written forms. The participants with also be given the tools to enable them to write accurate and articulate Danish, so the risk for misunderstandings between colleagues or in communication with, for example, doctors or other health workers is minimised.
In order to make the right impression when dealing with other people, it is important to be familiar with the correct forms of address and the correct tone. In this part of the course, we will teach participants to address patients in a way which will signal respect and encourage trust and a sense of security.
The teaching will be closely related to the participant’s work and revolve around case studies, enabling participants to focus on various relevant situations from their daily work. This ensures that the course is directly applicable and useful for the participants.
All BLS courses are organised with the goal of giving participants the maximum benefit in the shortest amount of time. This means that regular attendance is very important, and therefore the course can be held either at the participant’s workplace or at our premises in Copenhagen – which ever is most suitable for the participant – and at times which fit best in the participant’s schedule.
