Writing Skills
Organisations often find that the written English of its employees is simply not at an acceptable level. In particular, many Danes may be much stronger in speaking English than writing it, and this weakness is not something they themselves are always aware of. The ability to write clearly, concisely and correctly in English is crucial in doing business in English and a poorly-written email, report or other document can lead to an impression of unprofessionalism or, at worst, serious misunderstandings. Employees can often find themselves in awkward situations when their business writing skills are put to the test and, as we become more office-based and email-focused, the need for adequate writing skills in English is becoming more and more essential.
BLS can help you improve your writing skills, either as part of a course also focusing on other areas, or in a course 100% focused on writing. The level and format will be individualised to suit your specific needs and, as much as possible, writing tasks from your daily work will be used as a starting point for improvement.
The course could include one or several of the following areas of focus:
- Grammar and punctuation
- Developing a professional, reader-friendly style
- Phrasing (developing a more sophisticated way of writing)
- Planning and organising your writing
- Audience awareness (ensuring you are appropriate and consistent in the level of formality you choose).
- Common expressions and phrases generally used in business writing
- Editing and proof-reading
- Speeding up the writing process
The content could be related entirely to one or more specific type of document, for example emails, reports, proposals, invoice reminders and chasers, contracts or presentations. Alternatively, it could be a more general approach to provide an all round improvement.
The e-learning format is often a very suitable and effective means of improving writing. A course can be either completely e-learning, or a mixture of contact lessons and e-learning. For more information about e-learning, please click here.
