Introduction to Danish Work Culture

The Danish work culture has its own special peculiarities and if your career shift to the Danish business world is to be a success, it is a huge advantage to acquaint yourself with the characteristics of Danish work culture – including meeting culture, negotiation culture and general professional culture.

While you are getting used to Danish lifestyle and your ”cultural understanding” is expanding, you will probably find that you have many questions. There are also many pitfalls.  For example, in Danish workplaces there is a long tradition of valuing collaboration.  We share knowledge and hold long meetings to address challenges together.  In some other work cultures the opposite is considered to be competent and the ability to solve problems alone and without needing help from others is highly valued.

If varying expectations regarding working procedures, methods and conventions are not balanced, it can result in confusion, misunderstanding and a waste of resources.  This can lead to not only wasted potential and opportunities, but also to conflict, controversy and reduced job satisfaction levels.

Our cultural training for expatriates will make this process easier and help our international colleagues adapt to life in Denmark and the Danish workplace.  We focus on breaking down the cultural barriers and getting the benefits of cultural diversity.
