Corporate language training
When language means business

Country-Specific Cultural Courses

When you decide to relocate abroad, fitting in is important.  Learning the language is part of it, but there are also behavioural and cultural norms to consider and you may encounter customs and habits that are very different to what you are used to.

BLS can offer you a cultural course specifically related to the country you are moving to.  This can either be in combination with a language course, or as something separate.  Your instructor (a native of the country in question) will be able to introduce you to basic cultural unwritten rules related to the work place, to everyday life as well as to more informal and social settings.  Examples of topics covered may include:

  • How to address people correctly (different forms of “you”, use of first and/or surnames)
  • Attitudes and values
  • Business culture, style and communication
  • Humour
  • Taboo subjects
  • Pace of life
  • Bureaucracy
  • Mealtime customs
  • Male/female etiquette
  • Laws and legal aspects
  • Schools and education
  • Social opportunities and making friends
  • Practical information on living in your new environment
  • Strategies for coping, and making the most of your experience.

The content of the course will vary according to the country in question and your specific requirements.  However, there will always be ample opportunity for you to question the teacher about any specific issues you may have prior to expatriation, or any particular concerns or worries you may have about your future in the new country.
