When language means business

How Do You Say "Please" in Danish?

Danish politeness is not always very apparent in the Danish language, particularly as there is not Danish equivalent to the English "please" or the French "s’il vous plaît".

Does this mean that Danes are impolite?  Maybe, but politeness is also communicated in a more indirect way by using the adverb "gerne", the phrasal verb "at bede om" or, in a more subtle way, by communicating with the modal verbs "kunne, måtte, skulle, ville, burde, gide".

This seminar will give the participants the opportunity to quickly understand and assimilate practical language skills – effective phrasing, which will encourage clear understanding in negotiations and social relationships in professional and private situations.

In addition, the seminar will include examples of how language, in a broad perspective, contributes to defining the user’s identity.  Depending on the participants’ nationalities, we will also discuss differences in expression of politeness and the challenges you may meet with Danish or foreign social conventions.

This seminar is suitable for Danish and foreign participants.
